Tahoe Area

Tahoe Area

The Lake Tahoe area on the border between California and Nevada has an incredible number of wonderful hikes. This is the high Sierras so the hikes are usually at an altitude of 6,000 to 8,000 or 9,000 feet. I have only done a few of these hikes and will be showing photographs of them here. Most of these hikes need to be done in the summer or early fall or snow will obliterate the trail. The weather can be very hot and it is important to carry water with you. Also carry something to munch on as you can be on the hike for several hours.

If you pass your mouse over the links below, a photo of that area will appear above. The photos and information on three of the hikes are loaded. The others are under contruction and will be coming soon.

The Shirley Lake hike is approximately 5 miles round trip and is considered moderate to difficult. Much of it is fairly easy but there is a very steep section that is a bit tough. Cascade Falls is a very easy hike - 2 miles round trip and relatively level. Rubicon Trail follows the shore of Lake Tahoe and Emerald Bay. It is fairly level but it is 9 miles round trip.

When you go into the separate pages, move your mouse over the thumbnails and you will see the enlargements to the right along with the text that goes with that photo.
