To get to the trailhead, go up the old highway (Hwy. 40) from Donner Lake. This is a beautiful
drive and the Pacific Coast Trail is only a couple miles from the lake. You will very likely
see people rock climbing on
several of the tall, vertical granite cliffs. Go past the arched bridge pictured here and
continue up the hill. The main trailhead is about a quarter mile past the bridge. The trail
actually crosses the road but you want to catch it on your right,
directly across the road from the Sugar Bowl Academy. You will be heading in a northernly direction.
