Hanging Lake is a beautiful place. It is located a few miles east of Glenwood Springs, Colorado. You access it from a rest stop along the interstate. Then the trailwanders along the Colorado River before heading almost straight uptoward the lake. The trail is about a mile long and climbs 1000 feet. It is a beautiful ascent as the path follows a stream most of the way. Due to the steepness of the hillside, the stream forms small waterfalls all the way down.
The lake is nestled on the edge of these cliffs and has several waterfalls feeding it. If you walk a short way past the lake, thereare a couple more falls - one coming directly out of an opening in the cliff. The view from the lake looking out toward the valley is breathtaking.
